THE WORK OF OUR STRATEGIC PLAN 2018-2023

Chesapeake High School

  • When each school began to plan their important work based on AACPS’s 2018-2023 Strategic Plan during the spring of 2018, school teams reflected on their school culture, their community, and the key factors contributing to student achievement.  Each school was then asked to consider which Strategic Plan Indicators would have the greatest positive impact for their students. School leadership teams selected indicators and developed plans to focus and guide their efforts.  Please come with us on our journey as we describe why, what, and how we do our work to serve our students and families of our school.

Chesapeake High's School Story

  • Chesapeake High School (CHS), built in 1976, is nestled between the Magothy and Patapsco Rivers and serves as a community hub for the residents of the Pasadena Peninsula and surrounding area. CHS shares a vast 100+ acre complex with Chesapeake Bay Middle School and Bodkin Elementary School in a rustic community where horse farms, beaches, and historical treasures help our more than 1,400 students appreciate the rich history and natural beauty of Anne Arundel County. While overall student enrollment has declined over the past 10 years (partially due to a limited turnover in available housing within the community), the student demographics of Chesapeake High School have seen very little change since the school opened over 40 years ago.

Chesapeake High School provides distinct and rigorous academics, as well as over 80 extracurricular and co-curricular opportunities. Academic, co-curricular, and extra-curricular options for students include Advanced Placement (AP), Early College Access Programs (ECAP), Career and Technical Education (CTE), Digital Learning Commons (DLC), in addition to career internship/partnership opportunities. Chesapeake also offers an Information Management Signature program designed through relationships among community stakeholders, students, and faculty. Students enrolled in our Information Management Signature benefit from unique coursework, field experiences, guest speakers, activities, and internship opportunities designed to give them the knowledge and skills - including soft skills - to enter college or the workforce prepared for long-term success.

Additionally, CHS hosts a regional program which provides a hybrid special education program for students with emotional disabilities who benefit from a supportive and structured setting.

Our ROAR Period empowers students to make choices with their time responsible decisions and to be accountable for their own academic and social choices while also providing opportunities for students to build relationships with teachers and other students. Our students can elect to take a wide variety of Advanced Placement and honors courses as well as participate in many career-focused opportunities through our CAT-N, industry certification, Signature, and Anne Arundel Community College pathways.

The faculty and staff work to provide a quality learning environment for all students at Chesapeake High School and the majority of students enter our doors each morning with a positive outlook and excitement for the day. In order to ensure that every student feels welcome and connected at Chesapeake High School, we continue to focus on student voice so that students truly feel valued and respected about decisions that affect them.
